Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement plans work alongside your original Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B coverages. The great thing is they supplement the remaining out-of-pocket expenses left over from original Medicare. It’s important to note that 2020 Medigap Plans are guaranteed renewable. This means that once you’re enrolled in a Medicare Supplement plan, you can’t lose that coverage even if your health condition should change.

There are several Medicare Supplement plans available depending on which state you live in. Usually, Medicare Plan F and Medicare Plan G are some of the more popular plans available. It’s important to note that some states like Minnesota offer a Basic Supplement Plan or an Extended Basic Supplement Plan. It’s best to speak to a licensed insurance agent if you have specific questions. It’s also worth mentioning the best time to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan is during your initial enrollment period when you turn 65. The reason is being, you can get into a Medicare Supplement plan at 65 without answering medical questions. If you are interested in enrolling in a Medicare Supplement plan after you turn 65 it’s still possible, you’ll just have to answer a few health questions.

One reason that Medicare Supplement plans tend to be popular is that they don’t have network restrictions. This means that you’re not required to stay in a network of providers, doctors, or clinics. If you have a Medicare Supplement plan you can take it to any provider that currently accepts Medicare patients. Also, this means you can use the Medicare Supplement plan in other parts of the country when you’re traveling. This is different than Advantage plans which we will share more about next.
